Meet Greg Pogue

Greg Pogue has three-plus decades of extensive communications experience in print, radio, television, advertising, marketing and public relations.

 

Pogue is host of The Greg Pogue & Big Joe Show -- a sports talk show along with WSMV Channel 4 TV sports anchor Joe Dubin heard Monday through Friday on Nashville Sports Radio WNSR 560 AM, 95.9 FM and WNSR.com. Pogue is also the Voice of the Tennessee State Tigers football and men’s basketball teams and host of their coaches’ shows.

 

He is also president of Pogue Media Inc., a multi-media marketing and consulting firm, and guest sports columnist for The Daily News Journal, where he served a decade as executive sports editor and two years as senior columnist and editorial board member.

 

Pogue is also a former sports writer for Fox Sports Tennessee and the Nashville Banner. Other radio duties have included being studio anchor on the Nashville Predators Radio Network, Tennessee Titans pre- and post-game shows, Titans and Predators players shows, etc. He has hosted sports talk morning and afternoon shows in Nashville for the last 15 years.

 

In the 10 years he served as executive sports editor, the DNJ sports section was judged best in the state nine times for its division by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association. Also during this time, the DNJ sports section was named best in the country three times for its division by the National Newspaper Association. Three times, he was named Sports Columnist of the Year by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.

 

His print experience includes publisher of Big Orange Illustrated, the UT sports fan magazine, and a long-time sports reporter for the Nashville Banner, where he was the initial beat writer covering the move of the Houston Oilers to Nashville to eventually become the Tennessee Titans. At the Nashville Banner, he was also Prep Editor and Vanderbilt beat writer before moving to the pro sports beat that also included lead coverage of the NHL expansion into Nashville.

 

Pogue was also the Editor for Out of the Darkness Into Light: A Blind Fisherman's Story. The book is the autobiography of America’s first blind professional fisherman. The book was recently proclaimed for acceptance into the The Library of Congress.

 

Over the years, Pogue has logged more than 1,000 hours of television programming, including being host of an Emmy awarding-winning nightly sports show on WNAB Channel 58 in Nashville. He has also served as a consultant for various businesses in the areas of marketing, advertising, communications and public relations. Pogue has owned and operated various publications and communications businesses over the years in Kentucky and Tennessee.

 

In December, 2012, Pogue was inducted into the Metro Nashville Coaches Association Hall of Fame for contributions to advancing high school sports coverage throughout the state. He is also a member of the Nashville Black Coaches Association Hall of Fame and is a former member of the board of directors of the Football Writers Association of America.

 

Pogue and wife Robin have lived in Rutherford County for 25 years and have a son, Clay, a Smyrna High graduate; and a daughter, Grace, a 2015 MTSU graduate.
